Because Of My Childhood, I'm Addicted To Rain Boots!!
I Really Do Love My Rain Boots....
When I was little (I still am in a way, I'm only 5'1") I remember looking at Sears catalogs and dreaming of being one of the children on the colorful printed pages. Everyone seemed so happy and had a smile on their face, even on pages depicting people stuck outside in a terrible rain storm!!
When I was little and rain began to pour during my walk home from school, I remember running like crazy, dodging into front porch landings along the way! By the time I reached home, my hair was dripping wet, my glasses fogged, I was drenched and shivering cold!! Nothing at all, like the dry, happy little people on the catalog pages!
After ripping off my soggy clothes and throwing them into the bathtub, I dressed into some warm, dry clothes and picked up that Sears catalog my parents so proudly displayed on the counter. I remember one particular time, looking through the pages with water dripping down my face. After a moment I realized it was not water, but my tears!! I sat on the bathroom floor, tears streaming down onto the photos, smearing the happy little faces, no longer recognizable!!
I wanted to be one of those people in the catalog... the ones with bright yellow slickers and rain boots!!! The ones smiling as they splashed around in rain puddles, with never a care in the world! I wanted to be the one with the, brightly colored, floppy hat that kept their hair dry even though raindrops seemed to be raining cats and dogs!
But, I wasn't one of those, "lucky, special" people who lived on those pages. I wasn't one of those people who seemed so happy, no matter the challenge they seemed to face. BUT, I WANTED a pair of those rain boots!!!!
In our family of eight, my parents barely had enough money to keep food on the table, let alone, spend money on frivolous items like rain boots!!!! So, I never did get those boots I dreamt about, and I never became one of those people in the Sears catalog!!
But, I did grow up (even though I'm still a wee 5'1") and I DID GET my RAIN BOOTS!!! I have 44 pair of colorful, 'make me feel happy' rain boots!!! And, I look for new and unusual rain boots nearly everyday.
I know I will never be one of those people in the catalog, and happiness is not one dimensional. I know now, it comes from within and does not come from things we buy or accumulate.
It still feels good and stirs up a happy feeling from deep inside, when I see and more so, wear a pair of my happy little rain boots!!! Not only do they keep my feet warm and dry, they bring a smile to my face each time I look down at my feet; the child inside is finally satisfied and happy to have rain boots like the ones in the catalogs!
In our little town I am known as "Boots" and that somehow makes me happy too!!!
My Happy Little Rain Boots!!!

Candie, you always know how to make me smile!! As always, thanks for reading and your kind, encouraging words!!!
Wow! I knew you and Candie and I were soulmates (or is it solemates?)! I've only got one pair, but mine are black with polkadots-in-polkadots that look kind of like filled olives. I LOVE them, and I get so many compliments on them!
What a wonderful collection! Pat has currently vowed not to buy any clothes for 3 monthes - but has bought a pair of Wellies (rain boots to you) because they don't count as clothes (she says).
Thanks for reading girls... seems we all have some kind of addiction....or should I say "collection". Whatever it is, remember once you have 3...it's a collection no matter what you call it....lol. There are a few boots on line I have to get, but I hate paying $59 for them~~ so I will hold back til I just can't stand it anymore and then give in :-) Oh no, that truly sounds like an addiction huh!!!???
Well, collecting rainboots is certainly something I never thought about. It was delightful to read about.
Thanks Jerilee.... I know, I never had an intention to collect them either... somehow one turned in to two, two to three....then I was addicted!!! lol.... better boots than chocolate!! :-)
I agree that this is a delightful read.
Around here, you can hardly find ANY boots in the stores. People just ruin their shoes in the rain. Some kids' stores have rain boots in tiny sizes, though. it rains a lot here and we could use some of your colorful boots.
I remember the boots I had as a child were horrible, dark brown and smelled like rotten tires. Maybe they were.
Oh my, yes that old rubber.... we as children endured so many things that are now ruled as toxic and deadly!!! I remember all of us running after the ice cream man and all those toxic fumes we took in, just for the sake of an ice cream cone!!!
What a wonderful, happy hub on rain boots--I love it! I am so not a diva, but I love those boots! And your barn is just too cool, MFG--I am so jealous, lol...
Fantastic collection-- who would think they would make such a beautiful display. I hope you wear them, too.
Thanks girls for reading and commenting on my silly little hub :-)... I do love my little barn too, I will have to do a hub on that soon.... And, yes I do wear them, often... Wherever I go, people stop me to see which boots I have on and I always get tons of comments :-).... They really come in handy on our farm and thank goodness, are easy to spray all the critter poop off easily!!!!!
You are NUTS... and I love it. Wellies remind me of helping my dad work on the well. They are always a little too big, so I feel like a kid.
Yep, you're so right, I am a tad nuts...lol.... I know, I do feel like a kid when I tromp around in them :-)....Thanks for reading and commenting on my silly little hub!!! :-)
Omg i can just picture you splashing in big puddles!! AWESOME HUB!
Thanks for reading my crazy little hub... yes, I do have so much fun.... it's next best to being a kid, without all the 'kidstuff' we went through. :-)
Awesome hub. I, too have a weird little "thing" for rain boots. I remember my favorite times were in my red plastic boots in the midwest tromping around in the snow. When I had kids, I couldn't wait to get them rain boots. Too bad they're getting to be "too cool" for them now. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
You know, I don't think I have a plain red pair....I'm going to have to go look :-).... They are perfect for working on the farm, where you seem to step in to something every few strides... nice to just grab and hose, spray and go!!! Thanks for reading and commenting!!!
^^ such a nice way of writing.
=) you speak with such a truthfully pair of words that i cant but smille =D
I love your rainboot collection! I think it's absolutely fabulous! They're wonderful and cheery for a drab rainy day! I am looking for the perfect pair myself! What a sweet story, too!
Ooohhh, what a collection! I've been wanting to buy the same pair of Citrus rain boots. I've read some reviews saying that they broke down after a couple of months. Is that true? Could you give me some recommendations? You seems like such an expert on rain boots!
that sound good......because of rain you addicted to rain boots...funny..

Oh my gosh!! I love you for coming out about your "rain boot addiction" !! I've always wanted a pair of the yellow ones, but we had the red ones that went over your shoes. Practical, but not what my heart dreamed of! I shall come over and sit in your closet and spend time with your boots! Hugs! PS if you find a pair of the cherry ones or hot chocolate/underware in a size 8 let me know!!!
